我們通常也把這種傳感器稱為接近式傳感器。發(fā)射器的發(fā)射光照在檢測(cè)物上后，以任意角度散射。接收器接收到其中的一些光（當(dāng)接收光強(qiáng)大于開關(guān)閥值時(shí)）后開關(guān)觸發(fā)，即檢測(cè)到物體。一般來說，與檢測(cè)距離有關(guān)的因素有：檢測(cè)物的顏色、尺寸及光澤度等等。傳感器的實(shí)際檢測(cè)距離是以“白色測(cè)試板”為基準(zhǔn)的。白板的反射率為90%，通常被當(dāng)作“標(biāo)準(zhǔn)檢測(cè)物”。深色或不光滑的檢測(cè)物通常反射率較低；因此在檢測(cè)此類物體時(shí)，必須增大傳感器的靈敏度或是將傳感器移近檢測(cè)物。此時(shí)，必須留意背景物體比檢測(cè)物更亮的情況，結(jié)果可能會(huì)檢測(cè)到背景物體（而忽略實(shí)際檢測(cè)物）。
我們有以下類型的漫反射型傳感器：
帶背景抑制功能的漫反射型傳感器：此類傳感器為檢測(cè)物限定了檢測(cè)距離，而與檢測(cè)物的顏色、反射率及光澤度無關(guān)。它能夠檢測(cè)直接放置在亮背景上的暗色物體，且安裝調(diào)節(jié)也很方便。
聚焦式漫反射型傳感器：聚焦式傳感器通過對(duì)透鏡的調(diào)節(jié)將發(fā)射器與接收器的聚焦點(diǎn)固定在同一位置，該設(shè)計(jì)有利于屏蔽背景的干擾，同時(shí)小光斑的設(shè)計(jì)縮小了在檢測(cè)黑色和白色目標(biāo)物時(shí)的距離差。
帶背景處理功能的漫反射型傳感器：此類傳感器只對(duì)背景反射回的光進(jìn)行分析（譬如：地板）。如果傳感器檢測(cè)不到背景，輸出將改變狀態(tài)。此類傳感器一般應(yīng)用于對(duì)不規(guī)則形狀的物體進(jìn)行檢測(cè)的情況，此時(shí)使用者通常難以確定物體反射光反射回傳感器的具體位置。
